A little about us....

One of the most active and inquisitive bait and tackle owners in the Westerly area is Mike Wade of Watch Hill Outfitters.

Wade is intimately familiar with all the places where he directs customers and visitors, and those locales are mere minutes away: Little Narragansett Bay, The Race and nearby Fisher's Island in NY, Block Island, Misquamicut Beach and so many other places he mentions, all of which have hundreds of spots to settle into, explore and/or fish.

And with such a variety of equipment, clothing, baits, hooks, lures, sinkers, maps, and more; reinforced by service and knowledge to draw from within the store, a fisherman can then go out ready for most fishing expeditions from a two-hour 'lunch break' to a weekend or longer.

Clothing, new and used rods and reels (some on consignment), along with a variety of fresh or frozen saltwater and freshwater bait are all available. Kayaks can also be bought or rented and even launched on the Pawcatuck River, just behind the shop.

While his store features an array of drop, umbrella, fluke and squid rigs and jigs, his own custom Mike Wade plugs are popular, too, the product of a calculated, not mad 'fishing' scientist whose expertise has been honed from thousands of hours spent on or in the water. Throughout the year Wade also employs consultants, or expert anglers, on a short-term basis, usually for four hours at a time. "It's very unique in the industry," he says. "It's like a guide service. Our Consultant will ask them what they are trying to accomplish and even offer them suggestions on how to run their boat more efficiently and how to get into and out of places safely.
